ELBOW bassist MARK POTTER claims he caught mermaids while recording new album CAST OF THOUSANDS on a Scottish island.

Mark's bandmates - GUY GARVEY, PETE TURNER, CRAIG POTTER and RICHARD JUPP - were amazed when a group of nude women emerged from the water on the Isle of Mull and greeted him, but mock his other "mythical" sightings.

Guitarist, Turner says, "Mark went fishing and five girls turned up, took their clothes off and swam across the lake in front of him!

"Mark caught some mermaids last time we were up there, but Mark was the only one that saw them so maybe they don't exist! When there are just five of you everyday you grasp on to anything!"

Frontman Garvey adds, "Pete's got the libido of a scout troupe. There is so nobody up there on Mull. It was wild to run into anybody, let alone five young girls!"
