Troubled rocker PETE DOHERTY was furious his ex-bandmates continued to perform as THE LIBERTINES after they fired him for failing to kick drugs.

The CAN'T STAND ME NOW rockers ousted Doherty last summer (04), forcing the crack cocaine and heroin addict to turn his attention to his sideline outfit, BABYSHAMBLES.

But Doherty - who had always expected to return to The Libertines and resume his rock partnership with CARL BARAT - was devastated when the band refused to rename themselves in his absence, because the moniker belonged more to him than anyone else in the group.

Doherty's former Babyshambles drummer GEMMA CLARKE says, "When I joined Babyshambles last March (04), Peter was still in The Libertines. One day he said to me, 'I'm not happy, I'm going to leave them.'

"But the next day it said in the press that Carl had thrown him out. That upset him. He missed Carl. We always had it in our minds that he would go back to The Libertines.

"He used to say they were his band. He said, 'Babyshambles should be called The Libertines. How come Carl gets to keep the name?'"
