Rock wildman PETE DOHERTY has slammed the extremist candidates in next month's (JUN04) London mayoral elections.

Instead, he hopes the city's music lovers will attend an anti-racism gig to celebrate equality.

The TIME FOR HEROES guitarist is playing with his band THE LIBERTINES at the LOVE MUSIC HATE RACISM gig in Finsbury Park on 6 June (04), which aims to prevent racist hopefuls from gaining votes in the capital's community.

Doherty says, "I don't think you have to be a particularly developed human being intellectually or spiritually to despise racism. But we need to encourage people to fight racism, whether with words or actions."
