Troubled rapper DMX has been released from a New York prison early, after serving a month of a 70-day sentence.

The hip-hop star, real name EARL SIMMONS, was jailed in November (18NOV05) for violating his release conditions following a 2004 arrest when he pretended to be a federal agent and attempted to steal a car at New York's John F Kennedy International Airport.

The Queens District Attorney confirmed the rapper/actor was released from New York's Rikers Island jail on 30 December (05).

A spokeswoman for the DA says, "He got some time off, two-thirds, for good behaviour and also accrued some credit for time spent previously in jail."

The rapper is expected to resume his music career with Sony Music, after reportedly leaving his long-term label Def Jam Records.
