Late DJ JOHN PEEL will have lyrics from his favourite song TEENAGE KICKS by THE UNDERTONES on his tombstone.
The veteran BBC broadcaster - who died on Monday (25OCT04) from a heart attack while on holiday in Cuzco, Peru, aged 65 - helped discover the band over twenty years ago, and told a newspaper interview in 2001 how important the song was to him.
He says, "Maybe once a fortnight, after a few days of listening to sizzling new releases and worrying that the music is merging into angst but otherwise characterless soup, I play Teenage Kicks to remind myself how a great record should sound...
"We're talking about a record that even now reduces me tears every time I hear it...
"SHEILA, my wife... knows that when I die, the only words I want on my tombstone, apart from my name, are: 'Teenage dreams, So hard to beat.' What more do you need?"
