The DIXIE CHICKS have further distanced themselves from their country fans in the pages of fashion magazine VOGUE by insisting they're nothing like the people who smashed their CDs earlier this year (03).
The group upset a lot of Americans in March (03) when singer NATALIE MAINES blasted PRESIDENT GEORGE W BUSH's decision to go to war with Iraq during a show in London.
Some country music fans and radio stations staged CD smashing ceremonies to show their displeasure.
Maines, who together with her bandmates has been named among Vogue's Heroines 2003, has since apologised for her comments, and now she admits she'd take the apology back if she could.
She says, "When I watched people smashing our CDs I just thought, 'Good. Smash 'em. Please don't listen to me. I had no idea you thought I was one of you, because I'm not.'
"And I don't want to go to any award shows. And if we win, what would I get up there and say? I have nothing to say to these people."
