Rockers MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE's songs are so dark and morbid because frontman and songwriter GERARD WAY is always surrounded by death and sickness.

The HELENA singer reveals he has trouble writing upbeat tunes because he's often in mourning when he sits down to write songs.

He explains, "There's so much death in my life that it's just a constant. If it's not someone dying, it's someone in the hospital.

"I guess I come from a pretty ill family, and it's something I've got to accept. And one day it will be my turn."
