Women prefer singer-songwriter DAVID GRAY to COLDPLAY frontman CHRIS MARTIN - according to the SAIL AWAY singer himself.

Gray jokes his appeal to the opposite sex isn't surprising but when asked what it's like to have the "Chris Martin Effect" he reacts with mock-horror.

He says, "I thought it was the David Gray effect! You've taken the one thing that I've got and given it to someone else. He's only 22 or something, I've been banging away for f***ing years!"

When asked why he thinks his music appeals to the fairer sex, Gray adds, "There's always been a lot of women at the gigs and I don't know why. I think they've got good taste.

"It's sensitive, romantic, very melodic, simple music."
