American actress COURTNEY THORNE-SMITH has become envious of her pet dog ED - because he seems to have a more vibrant social life than she does.

The former ALLY McBEAL star, who has just adopted a new pooch called NORMAN, sends Ed out to a play group every day - and he's ended up more popular than her as a result.

She says, "They go to the park or they go for a walk. I got a call one afternoon asking if they could stay late because they were having fun at the beach!

"They go to places I don't get to go. They have a much more active social life.

"I'll be on walks in the morning and people will come up and go, 'Hi Ed!' I'm like, 'What? Who are you? You know my dog?' I'll be at the gas station and it's like, 'Excuse me, are you Ed's mom?' What is he, a kid?"
