COLDPLAY - COLDPLAY RECORD HISTORY IN US CHARTS

COLDPLAY have joined THE BEATLES in the history books as the only two British bands to have scored a top 10 new entry in the American singles chart.

The CHRIS MARTIN-fronted group have entered the BILLBOARD rundown at number eight with their new tune SPEED OF SOUND, from their long-delayed third album X+Y.

The legendary Fab Four are the only other UK outfit to have recorded the same achievement - they reached number 10 with HEY JUDE in 1968.

Elsewhere in the chart, rapper 50 CENT's nine-week reign at the top with CANDY SHOP has been ended by GWEN STEFANI's HOLLABACK GIRL.
