British band COLDPLAY's 2005 release X+Y has been voted the best UK album of the year (05), beating off stiff competition from OASIS and a string of new groups.
The multi-million selling album, which features the tracks FIX YOU and SPEED OF SOUND, went straight to number one in 28 countries and became the second fastest-selling album in British history.
GORILLAZ were runner-up in the GQ magazine poll with their record DEMON DAYS, followed by EMPLOYMENT - the debut album by KAISER CHIEFS.
Frontman RICKY WILSON says, "I'm actually dead chuffed.
"I would have hoped it would have been in there to be honest - which I know sounds arrogant, but then being in a rock band you have to be arrogant don't you?"
