COLDPLAY - COLDPLAY OUT IN THE COLD AT NOVELLOS

COLDPLAY are in shock after failing to pick up one honour at last night's (24MAY06) prestigious Ivor Novello Awards, despite being hotly-tipped to win in three categories. The CHRIS MARTIN-fronted band had been nominated for Best Song Musically And Lyrically for FIX YOU, and International Hit Of The Year and Most Performed Work for SPEED OF SOUND. But chart-topper JAMES BLUNT beat them off, winning two gongs for Most Performed Work and International Hit Of The Year for YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL, at the UK music industry ceremony. Singer/songwriter KT TUNSTALL picked up the coveted Best Song trophy for her smash hit SUDDENLY I SEE, while DAMON ALBARN and JAMIE HEWLETT of GORILLAZ were named Songwriters Of The Year. THE X FACTOR star SHAYNE WARD won the Best-Selling UK Single honour for THAT'S MY GOAL, while veterans NEW ORDER triumphed in the Best Outstanding Song Collection category. Special achievement awards went to British rockers RAY DAVIES, THE BEE GEES and IAN ANDERSON of JETHRO TULL.
