GEORGE CLOONEY is following in the footsteps of legend FRANK SINATRA - by taking the singing superstar's role in a second big screen remake.
Clooney played DANNY OCEAN in 2001 remake OCEAN'S ELEVEN, a role taken by Sinatra in the 1960 original.
And now he's in talks with UNIVERSAL PICTURES about taking on OL' BLUE EYES role in a new version of 1953 classic FROM HERE TO ETERNITY.
Studio bosses reportedly wanted the lothario to play MILTON WARDEN - BURT LANCASTER's part in the original.
But Clooney insisted he'd only sign up if he could play the part that earned Sinatra a Best Supporting Actor Academy Award - ANGELO MAGGIO.
A source tells British magazine NEW!, "As far as George is concerned, Frank was the king of Hollywood."
