GEORGE CLOONEY yesterday (30APR06) joined thousands of protesters at a rally to encourage US President GEORGE W BUSH to step in and help stop the genocide in the Darfur region of Sudan. Clooney, who has just returned from a visit to the African country with his father NICK, told the Washington DC crowd it is Congress' duty to halt the killing. He said, "This is in fact the first genocide of the 21st century, but there is hope - all of you. Every one of you speaking with one voice, every one of you." Speaking earlier in the day, the Oscar winner said of his trip to Sudan, "You feel completely overwhelmed. We flew over areas and my father and I would look at each other and go, this is just too much. "But then what are we to do? Nothing?"
