British horror movie icon CHRISTOPHER LEE has poured scorn on a planned remake of cult film THE WICKER MAN because he thinks setting the film in America is a joke.

THE LORD OF THE RINGS star played creepy LORD SUMMERISLE opposite EDWARD WOODWARD in the 1973 original, which was set on a Scottish island, and he thinks producers are making a big mistake bringing the storyline to America for a remake starring NICOLAS CAGE.

He says, "It (new film) sounds more and more strange. I'm not condemning it, I just don't see how it could possibly work.

"I mean, you might as well remake CITIZEN KANE."
