American rocker CHRISSIE HYNDE has made the bizarre admission of once being ROLLING STONES legend KEITH RICHARDS' cleaner.

The PRETENDERS singer - who has supported the Stones on a number of dates on their current FORTY LICKS world tour - moved to London in the early 70s and took a job at a cleaning company.

And she ended up polishing and hoovering the rock wildman's house, although she doesn't believe Keith knows this.

Chrissie, now 52, says, "That was the first time I got close to Keith Richards. The agency I worked for asked me to go and clean his house because there had been a spill from some pipes.

"I was actually sent to the wrong house, as he had two in London at the time and the spill was at the other one. I was invited in anyway, but I was too shy.

"It's hard to believe but he was my hero and my friends and I would go on Keith watch trying to spot him, but I wouldn't know what to say.

"I haven't told him this story either - perhaps I should have done when we were on the road.

"He's a lovely person, very personable but I'll always be in awe of him. I just didn't try to make a nuisance of myself."
