CHER - CHER SUPPORTS HELMET CAMPAIGN AT CAPITOL HILL

LATEST: Pop superstar CHER supported her new initiative to ensure better helmets reach US troops at a hearing in Washington DC yesterday (15JUN06). The BELIEVE singer has donated more than $130,000 (GBP73,000) to Operation Helmet, an organisation dedicated to upgrading existing helmets to better protect soldiers against blasts and impact concussions. Cher sat behind Operation Helmet's Doctor BOB MEADERS as he testified at the Capitol Hill hearing into the effectiveness of current helmets. Meaders said Cher had decided against testifying herself because she didn't want her celebrity to distract from the issue at hand.
