JIM CARREY has proclaimed his new movie to be too frightening for young kids - even though children's literature is littered with gloomy tales.
The Hollywood funnyman admits LEMONY SNICKET'S A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS, a dark tale about three young orphans who suffer terrible events, could give younger children nightmares.
He says, "There have always been dark stories for children. Take OLIVER TWIST or CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG with the CHILD CATCHER. That freaked me out as a kid, but I loved it.
"Having said that, I wouldn't bring a four-year-old to see it."
