MARIAH CAREY has topped off an amazing comeback year (05) in her native America by stealing the Christmas number one hit away from teenager CHRIS BROWN.

The diva's DON'T FORGET ABOUT US has become her 17th US number one on the Billboard Hot 100 - matching ELVIS PRESLEY's tally to become the joint second most prolific act on the chart.

The track means Carey has become the only artist to post two number ones on the Hot 100 in 2005. Her ballad WE BELONG TOGETHER was named the biggest hit of the year earlier this week (beg19DEC05) - it stayed on top for 14 non-consecutive weeks this summer (05).

Brown's RUN IT! falls to number two after five weeks at the top, while NELLY's GRILLZ, D4L's LAFFY TAFFY and STICKWITU by the PUSSYCAT DOLLS round off the Christmas top five.

Meanwhile, BEYONCE KNOWLES climbs high in the chart at number eight with her sixth solo top 10 hit and Oscar winner JAMIE FOXX scores the week's highest debut - his reworked version of RAY CHARLES' GEORGIA featuring LUDACRIS and FIELD MOB enters the chart at number 48.
