LATEST: LUTHER CAMPBELL denies he is suing 50 CENT for stealing lyrics from his 1994 track IT'S YOUR BIRTHDAY - insisting music mogul JOE WEINBERGER is behind the filing.
The 2 LIVE CREW singer is eager to distance himself from the copyright infringement suit lodged at Florida's Miami Federal Court last week (ends21JAN06) by attorney RICHARD C WOLFE.
The papers claim 50 Cent's 2003 hit IN DA CLUB lifts lines from 2 Live Crew's It's Your Birthday, but Campbell insists Lil' Joe Records owner Weinberger is exploiting the rights to his music.
He tells AllHipHop.com, "Let the record reflect that Joe Weinberger and Richard Wolfe are the individuals who are suing 50.
"They are not suing on behalf of me or any member of 2 Live Crew.
"These guys (Joe and Richard), that's all they do is go around suing people and use our names.
"When they do sue people and make money on that catalogue, neither me nor any of the 2 Live Crew members receive any money from that."
Weinberger gained ownership of the copyright after representing Campbell when he filed for bankruptcy protection.
Campbell adds, "They stole that catalogue from the members and me and we don't make money from it.
"When you read my book, MY LIFE AND FREAKY TIMES, you'll get the full entire story surrounding these two crooks and that catalogue."
