NICOLAS CAGE is poised for a sequel to 2004 blockbuster NATIONAL TREASURE.
A screenplay is currently being written and producer JERRY BRUCKHEIMER is enthusiastic about the project - promising an "intriguing" new plot.
He tells MTV.com, "We're working on the screenplay. I think we'll hopefully get into production later in the year."
Cage starred as adventurous treasure hunter BEN GATES in the film.
