GEORGE HARRISON's former wife PATTI BOYD introduced THE BEATLES to Indian mysticism and was the driving force behind their visit to the Asian country in 1968. The DAY TRIPPER legends went to MAHARISHI MAHESH YOGI's ashram to learn meditation and yoga techniques, and set in place a journey which has since been followed by millions of backpackers. She says, "(I was the driving force behind) the Indian thing. I suppose it was the establishment of the hippy trail, though we didn't realise that at the time. "I was the first in our circle to start meditating. I guess I just knew there had to be a more spiritual aspect to life. That's how it started. "India was a real third-eye opener. It was the opposite to England at the time, a real spiritual society."
