Rocker BONO has hailed CHRIS MARTIN's choice of charity work - because the MAKE TRADE FAIR campaign is a "winnable" battle.

The U2 singer - who has pledged to spend the rest of his life fighting for AIDS and famine victims in Africa - is delighted the new generation of rock stars are carrying on the tradition of using their fame to promote worthy causes.

And he admits the COLDPLAY frontman's chosen campaign - aimed at increasing the pay and reducing the working hours of labourers in third world countries - has been well picked by Martin.

He says, "It's amazing what Chris is doing. He's not just in a brilliant band, there's a moral compass there.

"By picking on unfair trade agreements, I think he's picked a very smart fight. It's winnable."
