KATE BECKINSALE - BECKINSALE'S VAMP TAKES A BITE OUT OF THE US BOX OFFICE

KATE BECKINSALE's return as sexy monster hunter SELENE in UNDERWORLD: EVOLUTION tops the US box office with a $27.6 million (GBP15.3 million) opening weekend.

The film topples animated feature HOODWINKED and basketball drama GLORY ROAD, which fall to two and three respectively on the new chart, by scoring $7 million (GBP3.8 million) more than both films put together.

QUEEN LATIFAH's comedy LAST HOLIDAY and Golden Globe Best Film-winner BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN round out the top five.

New entries in the US box office top 10 are END OF THE SPEAR at eight and TERRENCE MALICK's epic THE NEW WORLD at number 10.
