THE BEATLES have become the first act in the Recording Industry Association of America's history to earn six diamond awards after the group's number ones compilation, 1, notched up 10 million sales.

Released five years ago (2000), 1 has become the Fab Four's sixth 10 million seller, according to the RIAA.

The group's other five diamond awards were earned for sales of THE BEATLES, THE BEATLES 1967-1970, THE BEATLES 1962-1966, ABBEY ROAD and SGT PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND.

The only act close to matching the Beatles' feat is LED ZEPPELIN, who have five diamond-level titles.

Meanwhile, THE EAGLES' THEIR GREATEST HITS 1971-1975 remains America's biggest selling album ever by a million sales. The hits album has sold 28 million copies, while MICHAEL JACKSON's second-placed THRILLER has sold 27 million.
