BAND AID 20 - BAND AID CD SELLS 100,000 ON FIRST DAY

The new BAND AID 20 single has proven to be a massive hit with the record-buying public, as nearly 100,000 copies were sold in Britain yesterday (29NOV04).

Some shoppers even queued before shops opened to make sure that they picked up a copy of DO THEY KNOW IT'S CHRISTMAS?, which features the voices of stars including BONO, CHRIS MARTIN, ROBBIE WILLIAMS and SIR PAUL McCARTNEY.

A spokesman for the British record store HMV says, "It will certainly be a million seller.

"It looks an absolute cert to be the Christmas Number One and could stay at the top for six weeks, if not longer."

The single is expected to raise $3.6 million (GBP2 million) for people in war-ravaged Sudan.
