Brit artist DAMIEN HIRST's original design for the cover of the BAND AID 20 single was snubbed by record executives who were concerned that it might scare young children.

The double-sided design features a grim reaper with an emaciated African child perched on its knee. On the flip side is a Santa Claus with a white child holding a wad of notes.

The design that will appear on the single in shops will feature a cartoon cover of a reindeer standing in the snow next to a small child.

A spokesperson for the 39-year-old artist, who plans to sell limited edition prints of the original artwork to raise money for charity, says, "People have said it's a bleak picture but starvation and death are bleak subjects and there's no getting away from that."
