LANCE ARMSTRONG has expressed reservations about following up his successful cycling career with a move into politics - because he finds it "mean-spirited".

The sportsman, who on Sunday (23JUL05) became the Tour De France champ for a record-breaking seventh time, has announced his plans to retire from cycling, and has been urged by many to enter politics.

But Armstrong, boyfriend of SHERYL CROW, admits he's quite reluctant to follow such a path, explaining, "That world I think is unfortunately incredibly tough and mean-spirited at times, and I don't know why I would want to jump from here into that.

"But having said that, never say never."
