Movie star-turned-crooner DANNY AIELLO has slammed KEVIN SPACEY's biopic of his hero BOBBY DARIN - because he didn't call on enough American actors.

The MOONSTRUCK star, who performs Darin classics when he sings onstage, would have loved to have had a role in BEYOND THE SEA, but fears OSCAR winner Spacey was determined to cast Brits.

Aiello says, "Kevin sung wonderfully and he's a friend of mine. I liked the movie but the things I didn't like was BOB HOSKINS playing an Italian sanitation man with an English accent and the woman who played Darin's mother (BRENDA BLETHYN) is English.

"I think Kevin was influenced by working at the Old Vic theatre in England and he gave a lot of those people jobs.

"I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that but cop an American accent. That bothered me."
