BEN AFFLECK - AFFLECK CHARGES DROPPED

Charges against actor BEN AFFLECK have been dropped after no evidence could be found that he threatened to kill a woman who claims she is his girlfriend.

A warrant was issued for the star's arrest on Saturday (04OCT03) after TARA RAY, who claims she has been in a relationship with Affleck since February last year (02), accused him of threatening her during a phone conversation last month (25SEP03), before following her to her North Carolina home.

But New Hanover County District Attorney JOHN CARRIKER has dismissed the warrant after police failed to contact Ray, or prove the incident took place.

Carriker says, "This is a very good example of why people shouldn't be able to take out a warrant without any kind of police investigation."

Affleck's representative insists the actor was at his Georgia home at the time.
