Hollywood heart-throb LEONARDO DiCAPRIO has made a donation to UNICEF after being "devastated" by the shocking 26 December (04) tsunami in Asia.

DiCaprio has been watching the news in horror since the dramatic events, which has killed at least 140,000 people throughout southern Asia and eastern Africa.

The actor spent many months on the stunning Thai island of Koh Phi Phi in 1999 when he filmed THE BEACH. On 26 December, 200 bungalows at two resorts on the island were destroyed by the tidal wave, with many of the inhabitants still missing. He has already agreed to visit the country with UNICEF and now he is putting up money to show how much he cares.

DiCaprio says, "It's devastating, absolutely devastating. It is a horrific, horrific situation for all involved.

"Phi Phi was one of the most pristine, beautiful places I have ever been in my life. I had such a wonderful experience there, and the people were wonderful to me."

The TITANIC star has also set up a link to UNICEF's website on his official site.
