WHITNEY HOUSTON's gospel star mother CISSIE HOUSTON will hold a special prayer vigil for the troubled singer in New York City tonight (05APR04).

Whitney, 40, entered a rehabilitation centre late last month (MAR04) to reportedly wean herself off prescription drugs.

The SO EMOTIONAL singer's drug efforts come in the midst of husband BOBBY BROWN's stints in jail for probation violation and a battle over child support.

And tonight, Whitney's mother plans to hold a special service for the star at Harlem's ABYSSINIAN BAPTIST CHURCH.
