Rockers THE WHITE STRIPES have topped the British album chart with their latest release ELEPHANT - despite their last album peaking at a lowly number 55.

The lo-fi duo have taken the top spot from LINKIN PARK who last week were also number one in America, and British all-girl trio MIS-TEEQ entering at number six with their new album EYE CANDY.

In the singles chart, chart-topper ROOM 5 with soon-to-be EMINEM-collaborator OLIVER CHEATHAM sold more than the number two and three singles combined.

ATOMIC KITTEN and AVRIL LAVIGNE had new entries at number four and seven respectively.
