Pop star VICTORIA BECKHAM knew of her soccer star husband DAVID's infidelity, but is staying with him for the sake of their children according to a friend.

The source tells British magazine OK! that the former SPICE GIRL was unsurprised about the claims Beckham had slept with a number of women - but is determined to maintain their high-profile celebrity marriage.

The insider says, "It's absolutely true and Victoria knew.

"She has to have known, or at least suspected, that he's been playing away from home for some time now, these revelations are just the tip of the iceberg.

"He's been built up as a hero and he's become an icon, the Beckhams are worshipped and the brand is a multi-million pound business.

"There are too many people making too much money from them.

"It's not in anyone's interest to ruin their image - an affair or two simply isn't reason enough to ruin it all for so many people.

"David says kids should have two parents and that they should stay together for the sake of the family.

"He'd never push to separate because he loves them so much, he really is the most amazing father and despite everything, a fantastic bloke."
