BAND AID 20 - TWENTY MILLION TUNE INTO BAND AID 20

An astonishing 20 million British television viewers tuned in to watch the first showing of the video for BAND AID 20 yesterday evening (18NOV04).

The re-recorded version DO THEY KNOW IT'S CHRISTMAS? was shown across 30 UK television channels at 5.55pm in what was the largest simultaneous broadcast in the nation's history.

A Band Aid spokesperson says, "This is unprecedented. I've never known it even for a royal occasion, like the QUEEN's speech, to be shown on all channels like that.

"We have to make sure that as many people as possible buy the single and I can't think of a better way of doing that"
