SPIDER-MAN star TOBEY MAGUIRE paid $10,000 (GBP5,550) to play in the opening hand of the WORLD SERIES OF POKER CHAMPIONSHIP in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Monday (24MAY04).

The actor, wearing a yellow LOS ANGELES LAKERS baseball cap and sunglasses, is a keen card shark and jumped at the chance to play alongside the gambling world's top names.

Maguire was knocked out in the first round.
