TIGER WOODS - TIGER WOODS MOURNS FATHER

Golfer TIGER WOODS's father EARL died at his Southern California home early yesterday morning (03MAY06) following a cancer battle. He was 74. Woods was first diagnosed with prostate cancer in 1998 and was said to have been in frail health in recent months as the disease spread. The world's top golfer posted a message on his web site, saying he was "saddened to share the news". He wrote, "My dad was my best friend and greatest role model, and I will miss him deeply. "I'm overwhelmed when I think of all the great things he accomplished in his life. He was an amazing dad, coach, mentor, soldier, husband and friend." Tiger took time off from the PGA tour last month (APR06) to spend time with his ailing father. Earl, a former Green Beret, and his son enjoyed a close relationship, with Tiger being taught to swing a golf club by his father when he was only nine months old. Tiger adds, "I wouldn't be where I am today without him, and I'm honoured to continue his legacy of sharing and caring."
