THE MACHINIST - THE EDUKATORS SET FOR HOLLYWOOD REMAKE
THE MACHINIST director BRAD ANDERSON is desperate to do a remake of hit German movie THE EDUKATORS. The film about three youths who rebel against global capitalism - first peacefully, then by staging an abduction - was released in the United States last summer (05). But Anderson now wants to adapt the film, re-writing its script and changing location from Berlin, Germany to the US. He says, "What excites me most is the way the story straddles genres. On the one hand it's a thriller, and on the other, it's a provocative and timely political debate. Yet at its heart it's really a very sly, very dark romantic comedy." The original, which won prizes at the German Critics Film Awards and European film festivals, was directed by HANS WEINGARTNER.
