SONIC YOUTH rocker KIM GORDON believes America is deeply rooted in celebrity culture because of its relatively young history. The 53-year-old, who wrote the band's 2004 song KIM GORDON AND THE ARTHUR DOYLE HAND CREAM about MARIAH CAREY's breakdown, admits watching the antics of the famous is hard to avoid. She says, "Observing those celebrities is just an idle pastime. They're part of our landscape. "We don't have history in the USA - we have Hollywood, we have pop culture. For us, it's like looking at nature."
