JIM CARREY - RENEE PLAYS DOWN CARREY ROMANCE

JIM CARREY might be able to feign good loving as GOD in new movie BRUCE ALMIGHTY - but he failed to make the earth move for his ex, RENEE ZELLWEGER.

The actress was devastated when the couple's romance fizzled out at Christmas 2000 amid reports of an upcoming marriage, but admits, looking back, Carrey wasn't her most treasured romance.

She reveals, "We were together for less than a year, and half that time, I was in England filming BRIDGET JONES'S DIARY. That relationship got so much attention because he was famous.

"What I'll say about Jim is that he's very, very talented. But I've had much longer-lived relationships that have had a much more resounding effect on my life."

Zellweger refutes claims the pair were engaged.

She adds, "We were not engaged. The papers described the ring, which didn't exist, and they had all this other stuff that was so totally false."
