JOAQUIN PHOENIX was so determined to look as much like JOHNNY CASH as possible for biopic WALK THE LINE he shaved his forehead.

The quirky movie star insists he never set out to look exactly like the late country legend, but he knew that his widow's peak had to go.

He says, "I thought that I would try it (shaving it off), and it would grow back in by the time we started shooting, but it hadn't.

"There was a moment of concern, of, 'Oh no, does this look worse?' But we actually wound up continuing to do that. It worked."
