Jazz singer MADELEINE PEYROUX is being sued for $1 million (GBP556,000) by a former lover who claims he rediscovered and nurtured her talent.

WILLIAM GALISON, who has himself performed with stars including CARLY SIMON, BARBRA STREISAND and CHAKA KHAN, claims he co-funded a seven track album entitled GOT YOU ON MY MIND in March 2003 - which Peyroux used as a demo to secure a recording contract with Universal.

Galison claims he found the singer playing in a bar in New York City in 2002 seven years after the success of her debut album DREAMLAND in 1996 and that the pair then moved in together, during which time they formed an act and shared all their costs - including musical expenses.

He says, "We were romantically involved. She lived with me, she was eating my food and we had an amazing act. But suddenly she stopped working with me."

The case is due to be heard before Judge HERMAN CAHN on 28 September (05).
