OUTKAST - OUTKAST SETTLE WITH ROSA PARKS

OUTKAST finally settled a legal dispute with American civil rights veteran ROSA PARKS yesterday (14APR05), after a song on their 1998 album AQUEMINI used her name.

Parks, 92, initially sued the rappers in Detroit, Michigan, in 1999 for defamation and violating her right of publicity.

The track, ROSA PARKS, which does not mention the campaigner by name in the lyrics, contains the words, "Ah ha, hush that fuss / Everybody move to the back of the bus".

Parks' lawsuit was rejected before being reinstated on appeal, leading to yesterday's settlement.

Outkast, SONY MBG MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT, and Sony subsidiaries ARISTA and LaFACE have now agreed to broadcast a TV special on the elderly activist, and will then issue it on DVD and distribute it to schools across America.

Outkast, who admitted no fault in the agreement, will also pay for a number of educational programs, which will include a tribute CD.
