NELLY - NELLY SCRAPS CHARITY APPEARANCE OVER PROTESTS

Rap superstar NELLY has scrapped an appearance at a bone-marrow charity function in Atlanta, Georgia, after fundraisers criticised his videos.

The PIMP JUICE rapper was to appear at historically black women's SPELMAN COLLEGE today (02APR04), but has called off the idea after hearing that students are upset over the way he portrays women in his videos.

When it was announced that Nelly would be showing up on campus, several students raised objections.

Vice President of Student Affairs DR ZENOBIA HIKES says, "Spelman is concerned about the negative images of women in popular culture, particularly the misogynistic lyrics and images that constantly portray women in a sexual nature."

When word reached Nelly about the protests he was likely to face at Spelman, he cancelled his appearance.
