KC OF SUNSHINE BAND FALLS FROM STAGE

KC of KC AND THE SUNSHINE BAND is recovering at his Miami home, after falling off the stage during a concert.

KC, real name WAYNE CASEY, took a headfirst fall off a 1.8-metre (six-foot) high stage while performing on Saturday (07MAY05) at the CINCO DE MAYO FESTIVAL in Phoenix, Arizona.

The (THAT'S THE WAY) I LIKE IT singer, 54, suffered a sprained knee and a cut over his right eye that needed six stitches.

The band was two songs into its set when Casey took the tumble, just as BOOGIE SHOES was beginning.

Casey says in a statement, "I left my shoes at the hotel and had to perform in a new pair. I picked the wrong pair of Boogie Shoes!"

Casey resumed his performance and went to a local hospital afterwards.

KC and the Sunshine Band will continue with shows in Winter Haven, Florida, on Friday (13MAY05) and in Atlanta on Saturday (14MAY05).
