Hollywood hunk BEN AFFLECK proposed to JENNIFER LOPEZ because he knew she'd make a great mum.

The DAREDEVIL star accepts many people find their speedy romance to be a bit of a joke - especially after whirlwind affairs led to two broken marriages for J.LO - but he was convinced that asking his girlfriend to marry him last year (02) was the right thing to do.

He says, "This is something I would do if Jen was a teacher and I was working construction in Boston.

"Jen and I want to get married for the same reason everyone else does: we fell in love.

"I want to have a family and she's the only person I've ever met who made me entertain the thought of doing that. You know within 10 minutes of meeting Jen that she'll be a good mother.

"My father said the same thing about my mother, who was a world-class-Olympian mother."
