DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES star BRENDA STRONG has been recording her voiceover for the hit drama from remote Tennessee, where she's filming a new movie about the history of the Mormons.

Strong, who plays dead narrator MARY ALICE YOUNG in the hit show, landed a leading role in period epic THE WORK AND THE GLORY but feared she'd have to turn the part down because of her commitment to Desperate Housewives.

But generous Housewives creator MARC CHERRY gave her permission to leave Wisteria Lane - as long as she recorded her voiceovers in between takes.

Strong says, "I'd simply record the voiceover and send it back. It was strange to do a period film and then return to the voice of Mary Alice but I loved the challenge."
