CAPOTE - HOFFMAN SEES CAPOTE TURMOIL
CAPOTE star PHILIP SEYMOUR HOFFMAN believes late author TRUMAN CAPOTE's personal feelings toward Kansas prisoner PERRY SMITH extended to romantic depths.
The New Yorker journalist developed a connection with the prisoner in 1959, during extensive interviews that contributed to his work, IN COLD BLOOD.
The Oscar-nominated actor tells Empire magazine, "I think Truman was personally genuinely attracted and genuinely smitten with Perry Smith.
"I think he was in love with him. And the tragedy is that the ambition was burning him up from inside about the need to have his man die in order for the book to be complete."
