PRIMAL SCREAM - GILLESPIE GETS HAPPY

PRIMAL SCREAM frontman BOBBY GILLESPIE insists his songwriting has changed dramatically since he became drug-free and discovered true happiness The MOVIN' ON UP rocker recalls his music became darker the more miserable and drug-addicted he became, but after getting clean he has ditched anguish and introspection in favour of "dumb, happy rock 'n' roll". He says, "There was a lot of self-disgust, and after a while how many trashy, junkie songs can you write? "That was a state of mind we were in. It was getting darker and more joyless. "You can't really take it any further, unless it's just soulless metal non-music, which it felt like at times. "I'm happy now, so maybe that's why I want to make dumb, happy rock 'n' roll records."
