ALMOST FAMOUS actor JIMMY FALLON has leapt to the defence of Hollywood couple TOM CRUISE and KATIE HOLMES, insisting their romance is real.
While stars including SIR MICHAEL CAINE, LAUREN BACALL and JESSICA ALBA line up to slam the lovestruck pair - who got engaged in June (05) after three-month courtship - close friend Fallon is convinced the couple have been unfairly treated by critics who claim the public kissing sessions were designed to boost their careers.
He says, "Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are my friends and they're into each other. Forget what you read, I'm with them a lot and it's real."
